Recently I am attending a course learning how to be a good mentor to my kids. I have deep reflection on this topic – what will I do if my kids fail at school? How would I feel? Can I accept this?
I belong to the generation which education qualification is very important to help someone get rid of poverty. “Having good education qualifications equal to a bright and successful future “ has become the ” natural law ” of many parents like me.
However, the tutor led us to think the other way. If your child fails at school, and you know very well that he has tried his best, what you need to do is to encourage him to proclaim, ” I am Not a Loser! ” Failing at school is not his end. It is just another starting point, pointing to another direction.
Hardworking does not always guarantee success. Many people work very hard but having only fair results.
We can achieve something not only because we work hard, but also because of God’s Grace!

我 最 近 在 讀 一 個 怎 樣 作 孩 子 的 生 命 導 師 的 課 程，有 一 點 令 我 有 深 刻 的 反 思。我 屬 於 靠 讀 書 來 脫 貧 的 一 代，我 — 直 都 視 努 力 讀 書，有 好 學 歷 就 前 途 — 片 光 明 為 理 所當 然，雖 然 我 知 道 有 些 人 並 不 這 樣 認 為，但 有 好 學 歷 不 是 安 全 點 嗎？出 於 這 種 想 法，有 時 我 會 問 自 己，如 果 孩 子 將 來 讀 書 不 成，我 怎 辦 呢？我 接 受 得 來 嗎？
導 師 的 話 令 我 很 深 刻 地 反 思，他 說，父 母 是 孩 子 真 正 的 伯 樂，如 果 他 已 經 盡 了 努 力，就 算 結 果 不 如 人 意，父 母 也 要 鼓 勵 他 宣 告 自 己 不 是 失 敗 者，讀 書 不 成 不 是 他 的 終 點，生 命 不 單 是 努 力 就 — 定 有 成 果 的，很 努 力 但 沒 多 大 成 就 的 大 有 人 在。你 以 為 一 切 都 是 由 於 自 己 努 力 而 得 到 的 嗎？生 命 不 單 是 努 力 就 有 成 果，而 是 有 神 的 恩典 的！生 命 的 成 就 不 單 是 一 些 顯 性 的 成 就，他 的 內 在 承 擔 力、 責 任 感、是 否 給 人 — 個 可 信 得 過 的 觀 感、是 否 懂 得 訂 立 自 己 的 人 生 優 先 次 序 等 等，這 都 比 學 歷 來 得 重 要！

In fact, the heroes who received the most ” Thank you cards ” are Lily and Steven. The number of Thank you cards they received far exceeded any other winners ! This shows that the brothers and sisters in Elim had never taken their hard work for granted !

It is so heart-warming to receive each of these Thank-you card. I deeply feel that I am very blessed. I am very thankful for each one of our brothers and sister! Thank you very much!

Steven :
It is very hard to distinguish “ a job “ and “ a ministry “. One must do his best in his “ job “, because he is paid to do so! As time goes by, the proportion of “ job” is much bigger than “ ministry “ . I think , “ since this is a part of my job, there is nothing worthy for other people’s appreciation, and it is just natural that I have to do the best. “
No matter whether this is a job or a ministry, everybody needs recognition and encouragement. That is why I like Elim Appreciation Day. Through this special event, every one of us ( including myself ) can learn and practice appreciation and say thanks. Finally, thank you Cora for choosing the Ukulele clip for me. I really like it a lot ! Thank you very much !

Steven :
其實很多事都不容易釐定為事奉或是為工作。工作自然是理所當然要做得好，因為人工包左。而隨著年月過去，工作和事奉的比例開始變為工作以一面倒的姿態勝出，也就是說，在我心目中，自己做的一切都變得理所當然，自覺沒什麼值得別人讚賞。
喜歡以琳激賞日，因為無論工作也好，事奉也好，其實都需要認同、需要鼓勵。透過激賞日，每個人(包括自己)也可以重新學習、練習欣賞和感激。最後，好多謝Cora代大家選購給我的Ukulele小夾架，真的很喜歡，多謝！

What is true endurance?
Have you ever thought of , “ something is still here today, but will disappear tomorrow? “
There are so many changes in life, who can guarantee they can endure till the end only with his own strength?
Up to now, I have not introduced who I am……
I do not have good education qualifications. It is not easy at all for me to achieve what I am today. I have encountered many therapies, why, for what?
I have tried Kwan Yin, Wong Tai Sin, Ma Zhou, medium, Fung Shui, fortune telling. I have met with monks in Tibet and Bai Long Wang of Thailand. I have seen demons and had been processed by demons too. I have tried calling hotlines preventing suicide, counseling, doing volunteer work, self-harming, and suicide too. I have tried doctors, herbalists, nuitritional therapy, psychiatry, acupuncture therapy, hypnotherapy…!
Each of this gave me a different experience, a different viewpoint and some changes. Different methods gave me different hopes and disappointment! When I thought that I am already in the bottom of a valley, in fact, this is only the beginning of another deeper valley! I said to myself, “ What is the next step? Will I have the courage to keep trying and failing? “

不可思議的真人真事
我想說的見證，是一個很長篇，和包含了很多不同的訊息的真實故事。

你們從來有否真正想過什麼是珍惜？
什麼是真正的忍耐？
有沒有想過或遇過今日還在，明日已經消失的事情？
人生變幻無常，有誰可以保證自己無論在什麼情況下，都能靠自己捱到最後？
說到這裏，好像我還沒介紹自己是誰呢！
我讀書不多，但能走到這一刻，對我來說，實在不是一個易事。
我接觸過很多不同的事情和治療方法，其實，為的是什麼？ 我接觸過觀音、黃大仙、媽祖、問米神婆、風水、批命、西藏高僧、泰國白龍王、撞邪、上身等； 也曾致電生命熱線、防止自殺熱線、見社工、做義工、自殺、摧殘自己；也嘗試過中醫、西醫、針灸、精神科、催眠治療、營養治療……..等等等等！
每一個部份，都帶給我不同的經歷、看法及改變。不同的方法，在希望中卻又帶來不少失望！ 看似已走進谷底，怎知每一個谷底，只是另一個更深谷底的開始！當時我不禁問 : 我是否能有屢敗屢戰的信心繼續走下去呢？下一步又會是怎樣呢？

The 1st Elim Appreciated Day has been held on 24 October 2010. We are able to interview the brothers and sisters who received the most Thank you cards this time. However, we hope to receive more and more opinions from other brothers and sisters as well. So, do send us your views and we can post for you ! In fact, the following brothers and sisters are not those who received the most thank you cards. Who are the real heroes ? Let me tell you next time !
Sandy:
Thank you brothers and sisters for your recognition and blessing! Glory to God! 24.10.2010 was our first Elim Appreciation Day. I got an award for “ receiving most thank-you cards”. I am very happy. I need recognition and appreciation from others. But I haven’t thought that I could be the No.1! When Pastor Leung proclaimed that I am the winner, I really couldn’t believe this and didn’t know how to react.
After I have received the award and went back to my seat, my feeling then started to flow out. There was a time, I almost left Elim due to my personal difficulties. By that time, Pastor Leung said to me, “ … no matter what, after all, this is your home, and they are your families ….. “ It was with these words and God’s grace, I endured and overcame these difficult time.
Now, seeing this home, and my family members’ recognition and appreciation to me, and think back what had happened before, my heart almost melted. My heart has been accepted and my heart belongs to this family once again. God gave me the opportunity to be part of this family once again! I love you all, I love my family! Glory to God!
Penny:
When I heard my name, I thought it was a mistake. But when I looked at Pastor Leung who was on the stage, she was looking at me at the same time, I realized that it was really me! When I got the gift, it was so sweet! Thank you Father!
Alison:
Elim is my home. I have been well taken care of in this home all the time. Thank you brothers sisters and Pastors, for all your care to my family and me. when my kids were small, I really could not take up any ministry at church. I learnt to serve my family with a very dedicated heart and I was joyful for this. However, since I could not join most of the church activities, I started to lose the bonding among brothers and sisters who were not in my cell group. And I was not happy about this at all. I think many people do experience difficulty in church life at different times. I prayed and God told me, “ You are the one to solve the problem, but not the one to create more problems. “ With this, I started to learn to express my love and care to others even without any post in church ministry. Loving people is a very happy thing. I am learning how to care about other people in the way, which they will find it comfortable. This is my weakest part. The “ Thank-you Cards” represent our friendship, I treasure every single piece of these. When I feel frustrated, I will read them all again and again! I almost don’t want to spend the money away! But finally I exchanged them for a sweater because I am not cold resistant. Special thanks to Cora and all the brothers and sisters for bringing this meaningful day to us. I have so many people I want to say thanks to, but I could only write a few cards…… !
Andy (Wong):
It is a wonderful thing being appreciated. However, one should not be prideful because of winning this award. So many brothers and sisters in our church have contributed to the church quietly. They should be the ones to be awarded. What I have done….. is too small! Church is our home. It is not possible for everything to be perfect. I need to learn to accept one another, endurance, tolerance, and appreciate one another!
Maggie:
“ Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously “ 2 Cor 9:6 Through this Elim Appreciation Day, I realize that this is very true. When I wrote the Thank-you cards, I have so many people I want to say thanks to. Because so many of my “thank-you words” have been buried inside my heart. Through this Thank you card action, all of us can boldly write down our appreciation. What we received is not just the “cash “ inside the packs, but every line of sincere words. This warms our hearts so much. No matter if you are the giver or the receiver, both are very happy. 感 謝 弟 兄 姊 妹 對 我 的 肯 定 及 祝 福 ！ 榮 耀 歸 主 ！ 2 0 1 0 年 1 0 月 2 4 日 為 第 一 屆 以 琳 激 賞 日 。 當 天 ， 我 得 到 一 個 「 收 到 最 多 多 謝 咭 」 獎 。 ^ _ ^ 我 很 喜 歡 ， 也 很 需 要 別 人 的 欣 賞 及 肯 定 ， 只 是 ， 我 從 未 想 過 我 會 得 到 冠 軍 ！ 所 以 ， 當 梁 牧 師 宣 佈 我 獲 獎 時 ， 一 時 間 ， 我 不 能 相 信 ， 也 不 懂 得 反 應 。
當 我 領 完 獎 、 返 回 座 位 時 ， 心 裡 的 感 受 才 開 始 湧 現 。 曾 幾 何 時 ， 我 因 著 個 人 的 困 難 及 軟 弱 ， 幾 乎 離 開 了 教 會 。 幸 好 ， 當 時 梁 牧 師 對 我 說 了 這 番 話 ： 「 … 這 到 底 也 是 你 的 『 家 』 、 那 些 到 底 也 是 你 的 『 家 人 』 … 」 。 就 是 這 番 話 及 神 的 恩 典 ， 我 捱 了 過 去 。
現 在 看 到 這 個 家 、 這 些 愛 我 的 家 人 及 他 們 對 我 的 欣 賞 及 肯 定 ， 再 回 想 過 去 的 一 切 一 切 ， 我 的 心 融 化 了 。 我 的 心 再 次 被 接 納 ， 我 的 心 ， 再 次 屬 於 這 個 家 ！ 神 讓 我 再 次 容 讓 自 己 成 為 這 家 的 一 份 子 ! 我 愛 你 們 ， 我 的 家 人 ! 榮 耀 歸 主 !

當 自 己 的 名 字 被 讀 出 時 ， 一 時 之 間 以 為 聽 錯 ， 再 望 望 台 上 的 梁 牧 師 ， 她 正 望 著 我 ， 那 時 便 知 道 真 是 自 己 。 收 到 禮 物 後 ， 心 裏 真 的 很 感 謝 神 ！

以 琳 是 我 的 家 ， 我 一 直 在 這 家 中 都 感 受 到 愛 和 關 懷 ， 很 多 謝 弟 兄 姊 妹 和 牧 師 們 一 直 對 我 和 我 一 家 的 關 懷 。 但 當 孩 子 小 的 時 候 ， 我 實 在 沒 法 在 教 會 事 奉 ， 我 非 常 用 心 的 在 家 中 學 習 事 奉 自 己 的 家 人 ， 也 很 喜 樂 。 但 除 了 小 組 的 成 員 外 ， 漸 漸 和 教 會 其 他 教 友 生 疏 了 ， 因 為 很 多 活 動 都 因 時 間 不 配 合 而 不 能 参 加 。 這 樣 我 不 開 心 。 其 實 很 多 人 在 教 會 生 活 中 或 多 或 少 都 出 現 過 一 些 困 難 的 時 候 ， 我 禱 告 ， 神 告 訴 我 ， 我 就 是 那 個 要 去 解 決 問 題 ， 而 不 是 去 製 造 更 多 問 題 的 人 。 於 是 我 漸 漸 去 學 習 就 算 沒 有 任 何 的 事 奉 岡 位 ， 都 可 以 去 表 達 我 的 愛 和 關 懷 。 愛 人 是 一 件 很 快 樂 的 事 。 我 不 斷 在 學 習 ， 尤 其 是 要 學 怎 樣 用 使 人 容 易 接 納 的 方 法 去 關 心 別 人 ， 這 是 我 最 弱 的 一 環 ， 只 怕 好 心 做 壞 事 呢 ！ 那 些 多 謝 咭 代 表 了 我 們 的 友 誼 ， 每 一 張 我 都 很 珍 惜 ， 當 我 沮 喪 時 我 會 再 拿 出 來 看 ！ 那 些 錢 差 點 還 捨 不 得 用 呢 ！ 最 後 還 是 變 成 了 一 件 毛 衣 ， 因 為 我 好 怕 冷 呀 ！ 特 別 多 謝 Cora 和 所 有 弟 兄 姊 妹 的 付 出 ， 讓 我 們 能 有 這 麽 有 意 義 的 一 天 ！ 我 要 多 謝 的 人 還 有 很 多 ， 可 是 只 能 寫 幾 張 咭 呀 … … ！

被 別 人 讚 賞 ， 是 一 件 開 心 的 事 ， 得 獎 並 沒 有 甚 麼 了 不 起 ， 還 有 很 多 弟 兄 姊 妹 ， 默 默 地 為 教 會 付 出 ， 他 們 オ 是 最 值 得 讚 賞 的 ， 我 做 的 。 。 。 實 在 太 少 了 。 教 會 是 我 們 的 家 ， 一 切 的 事 豈 能 盡 如 人 意 呢 ？ 在 這 裏 我 也 需 要 學 習 接 納 、 忍 耐 、 包 容 和 欣 賞 別 人 。

今 次 ， 我 體 會 到 「 少 種 的 少 收 ， 多 種 的 多 收 」 這 話 是 真 的 。< 林後9:6＞
當 自 己 寫 Thank you card 的 時 候 ， 有 好 多 人 想 多 謝 ， 因 為 對 不 少 的 弟 兄 姊 妹 的 感 謝 之 情，常 只 是 被 我 埋 藏 心 裡 。 所 以 我 覺 得 今 次 藉 著 Thank you card 行 動 ， 弟 兄 姊 妹 ( 包 括 自 己 ) 可 以 大 膽 地 寫 下 感 謝 的 說 話 ， 讓 收 到 的 人 不 單 是 收 到 金 錢 上 的 祝 福 ， 而 且 還 收 到 一 句 又 一 句 真 摯 的 感 謝 說 話 ， 的 確 很 窩 心 ！ 無 論 是 送 出 的 或 是 接 收 的 ， 我 都 覺 得 很 開 心 ， 以 琳 激 賞 日 絕 對 是 以 琳 教 會 很 讚 的 盛 事 ！

On a Mothers’ Day a few years ago, Pastors led us to pray for all mothers. I prayed that all mothers in Elim would be “ happy mothers “. I prayed this prayer because I found many parents were exhausted and seemed children have brought them burden more than joy.
This is a great pity. Kids are great gifts from God. I believe if we know and follow the Bible to build our family and raise our kids, there will be great joy.

Person In Charge : Alison好 幾 年 前 的 母 親 節 主 日 ， 牧 師 請 所 有 媽 媽 出 來 祈 禱 ， 那 時 我 心 裏 默 禱 ， 希 望 教 會 裏 所 有 的 媽 媽 都 會 是 開 心 的 媽 媽 。 我 之 所 以 這 樣 祈 禱 ， 是 我 看 到 身 邊 有 很 多 父 母 ， 不 知 不 覺 地 把 孩 子 看 成 負 累 ， 孩 子 榨 乾 了 金 錢 ， 精 力 ， 和 配 偶 的 關 係 ， 自 己 的 生 活 ， 自 己 的 靈 命 。 他 們 誠 然 很 愛 孩 子 ， 但 似 乎 孩 子 帶 給 他 們 憂 愁 多 於 喜 樂 。這 真 的 很 可 惜 ， 因 為 兒 女 是 神 所 賜 的 產 業 ， 如 果 我 們 依 照 神 的 教 導 去 經 營 我 們 的 婚 姻 ，兒 女 ， 家 庭 ，這 肯 定 會 給 我 們 極 大 的 喜 樂！

We have to honor our elderly members. Most of them are quiet and shy. However, they are leaning on our God quietly. He is the one who loves us and protects us daily all the time.
Although most of them have different kinds of physical problems, they are here on our Sunday Service every week. No matter if it was a rainy day,a very hot summer, or in the very cold winter, they are here promptly for the worship even earlier than some of the youngsters! Although they are physically weaker, some of them have even gone through physical operations, they will never complain whether the air-con is too cold or too hot nor would they ever ask for others to serve them !
Please continue to pray for them, that they will have peace and joy all the time !

我 們 要 尊 敬 我 們 的 長 者 ， 他 們 大 多 害 羞 、 安 靜 ， 默 默 的 倚 靠 那 愛 我 們 、 保 護 我 們 的 神 。
雖 然 不 時 都 有 身 體 上 各 種 大 小 毛 病 ， 但 不 論 大 風 大 雨 、 或 汗 流 夾 背 、 又 或 寒 風 刺 骨 ， 他 們 總 是 每 個 星 期 日 都 準 時 來 崇 拜 ， 比 起 年 青 力 壯 的 來 得 更 早 。 他 們 雖 然 體 質 較 弱 ， 當 中 不 少 更 曾 做 過 多 次 手 術 ， 但 是 他 們 永 不 會 抱 怨 或 冷 或 熱 ， 也 從 不 要 求 別 人 服 侍 。
請 為 他 們 代 禱 ， 求 主 保 守 他 們 有 平 安 的 腳 步 ， 喜 樂 的 心 ！

Timothy Cell Group ( Meeting : weekend afternoon )
“ Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. “ (1 Timothy 4: 12)
Timothy Cell Group is a youth cell group belonging to the third district of Elim Church. At the beginning, we had only 6 members and now we are more than double.
We have a younger sub-group for teenagers from 12 to 15 who are secondary school students. The older sub-group composes of 16-26 years old high school students, university students and working youth.
Our group statement is “ Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. “ (1 Timothy 4: 12)
Youth Alpha
From 2007 onwards, we organized Youth Alpha every summer vacation with the objective to reach more young people. Leading them to know Jesus and help them to establish good relationship with Him. We have reached over 30 young people through this ministry so far. May God, who loves these young people, use them to serve more young people who need Him.

提摩太小組 – 每逢星期六下午聚會
「不可叫人小看你年輕，總要在言語、行為、信心、愛心、清潔上、都作信徒的榜樣。」 ( 提摩太前書 4 : 12 )
提摩太小組是以琳教會第三區的青少年小組，由最初的六個成員，增至到現時的十多位。
現時小組分為兩個小組，「細組」年紀較輕，主要由12歲到15歲的初中生組成。
而另一組「大組」則為16-26歲的高中、大專生及職青。
提摩太小組的組訓為：「不可叫人小看你年輕，總要在言語、行為、信心、愛心、清潔上、都作信徒的榜樣。」 ( 提摩太前書 4 : 12 )
「少青啟發課程」
為了推動組員全民皆兵的傳福音運動，由2007年開始，每到暑假，我們便會舉辦「少青啟發課程」，旨在引領年青人認識耶穌，並與耶穌建立關係。課程舉辦的這三年來，我們已經接觸超過30名年青人。但願愛年青人的神，使用他們去服事更多需要神的年青人。
